Welcome to another week at Paterson Campus. Many exciting things are happening across the campus over the next few weeks, culminating in the International Day celebrations on the last day of Term One, Friday 6th October. We look forward to welcoming the entire ISS community onto the campus on that day to reflect, enjoy and learn a little more about the diverse community that makes up our wonderful school. Elementary School News It was great to see so many parents at our Elementary School Sports Day. The students demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm for their house events. I would like to extend a big thank you to our K-5 PE teachers for their organization of a wonderful event! Performing Arts We are very excited about our new performance model that has been developed to enhance your child’s educational experience at ISS. This model of performing arts concerts will allow us the optimal opportunity to deliver performances with authentic connections to curricular content. These Performing Arts concerts will take place on Paterson Campus throughout the school year in grade levels. Each unique performance will be inspired by the unit the students are inquiring into for that particular grade level. The more intimate and meaningful nature of the performance will allow for each child to play a greater role in the production and to become familiar with and confident in the performance space. We look forward to sharing this amazing learning experience with our families and community. This wonderful programme starts with K2 on Friday, 27th October, 2017. More details to come soon! The meeting will take place in the Elementary School Changi Hall, on the 3rd floor on Wednesday, 13 September at 7:50 AM. All parents and guardians are invited to attend this meeting. All prospective PTA committee members are requested to attend this meeting as we will be voting in our new committee. Should you be interested in joining our committee in an elected/official capacity, please complete the form you received via email and return via email ([email protected]) or drop it off in the Elementary, Middle, or High School offices. Please note, as parents and guardians you are all members of the PTA and are welcome and encouraged to attend all PTA-related events and meetings. Nomination forms will also be available at the AGM. Any inquires should go to Mr Inman ([email protected]). http://isseca.weebly.com/ After school pickup and drop off A gentle reminder that the Paterson Campus car park is a one way flow of traffic. If parents drive into the car park at the end of the school day, to pick up children, they must wait until buses leave, in order to drive out of the campus. If parents get dropped off by a taxi or hire car (Uber, Grab car etc) you need to be dropped off outside the school gate. Thanks for making the car-park a safe pedestrian space. Elementary School News Thank you to those parents who were able to attend the PYP Coffee Morning this week. It was a great opportunity to share an introduction to the Primary Years Programme at ISS and discuss ways to support the programme at home, including encouraging questions, getting to know your child’s units of inquiry, and using the Learner Profile as a model and reflection tool. Upcoming Events Wednesday, 13th September - PTA Annual General Meeting (Changi Hall, 7:50m) Thursday, 16th September - Grade 4 Field Trip to the Parliament House Friday, 22nd September - ES Sports Day Middle School News It’s been a very parent focused week in the MIddle School. We began with the Week Without Walls (WWW) information evening. Wonderful to see so many parents join us, as the tales of adventure unfolded during the evening. Big thanks go to Dr Jeremiah, Mr Ballinger, Ms Shelley for their contributions on the night. Could not make the evening? Go to www.msweekwithoutwalls2017-18.weebly.com All general information can be found there as well as the trip specific information. Plus there are contact details for all those involved in WWW. On Thursday morning, in true International Baccalaureate (IB) style a number of parents were risk takers when they came to the MYP Coffee morning. Part informational, part activity, part question and answer, the morning explored many areas of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the integration with our academic software platform - ManageBac (iss.managebac.com). Again, if you could not make the event, I sent out, via managebac, all the slides from this morning’s presentation. Next week, for the first time this year, it is a quiet week. We are now into the rhythm of the academic year. Take advantage of this week to sit with your son and/or daughter and ask how school has begun, for them. What areas are they enjoying? Which things did they find a challenge? What was the funniest thing that happened this week? Parents and guardians play an incredibly important role in the school community, in supporting learning and the best starting point is always ‘So, tell me one thing that happened today?’ Have a great weekend everyone MT Upcoming Events Wednesday 13th September - PTA AGM Thursday 20th September - MYP ESL Supported Coffee morning Friday, 22nd September - ES Sports Day Friday, 29th September - MYP Swim Gala Friday, 6th October - International Day |
