Amazingly next week is the last week before Spring Break so this will be the final blog before the break. Time has shot by once again and I wish you all a very happy and safe holiday.
Elementary School News This week in the Elementary School, the Grade 1 classes had full houses for their Grade One Poetry Cafe. The students recited their own poems to their parents, demonstrating their creativity and confidence. On Wednesday, our Grade 5 classes hosted 37 Grade 5 students from Binus School in Jakarta. Our guest students enjoyed a morning of attending Grade 5 classes and socializing during morning break. As ISS continues to participate in the IB world community and connect with other PYP schools such as Binus, the students were able to spend time sharing their thinking about their own school’s Exhibition journey. Students in School after Pick Up It is lovely to see parents and students enjoying the facilities at ISS to socialise after the students have been picked up. Please be reminded however that parents are responsible for ensuring that students are not interfering with ECA's, meetings or other activities taking place after school. Upcoming Events Wednesday, 15th March - Grade 5 field trip to Exhibition at Nexus International School Friday 17th March School Breaks up for the holidays Monday 3rd April School Starts again after the break Middle School News Well it’s go go go in the Middle School at this time of the year. Plenty happening both inside and outside the classroom. Moving towards a term break is always a busy time for learning. Teachers and students alike are trying to get their ‘decks cleared’ before a break. Making sure our students manage their time is a joint agreement between the home and school. It is a good time to check in with your son, daughter or ward about how they are managing their time. I know teachers are mindful of this, constantly. Well, what a weekend! Great work and thanks to everyone that was involved in the sleepover last Saturday. Mr Lebon for organising as part of ‘Into the woods’, Mr Contreras, Mr Shelly, Mrs Tan and Mrs Taylor for all contributing by either sleeping over or cooking and organising. Sunday morning there were quite a few bleary eyed students and teachers but overall many happy faces. Then to the Funfair. A great outpouring of community spirit was evident on Sunday. Fantastic organisation by the PTA. everything ran smoothly and everybody commented on what an enjoyable it was. Again recognition goes to the students and teachers who contributed to car washing, bake sales, banana covered chocolate sales, the toilet throw challenge to mention but a few. A true reflection on the ISS spirit and ethos that values community interaction as integral to learning. During the week, Fang Shelly held an IB Middle Year Programme (MYP) education session. This was run informally as a coffee morning last Tuesday. During this time she discussed a number of areas integral to the MYP, including Approaches To Learning (ATL) in the MYP; and the assessment process. Fang was able to answer many questions and this enabled parents to walk away with a little more insight into learning in the MYP. Now to upcoming events in the Middle School. The next big thing is Sports Day on Friday 17th March. Come along and see the students go faster, higher and longer is pursuit of athletic excellence.
