Paterson The PTA will be running a stall at the Fun Fair to sell gently-used books and toys. If you are doing some spring cleaning and wish to donate toys in good/clean condition and books of any language, age range or subject, please look for the PTA collection boxes next week. Please however keep in mind that Literacy Week is coming at the end of February also. During Literacy Week there will be a book swap where kids will be asked to donate a children’s book in exchange for a ticket. The children can then use the ticket to trade for another donated book. If your child attends the Paterson campus, please make sure you have a book ready for your child to participate in the Book Swap. It was great to see all of the children back this week, catching up with friends and making new friends. A warm welcome to all of our new families to ISS. ISS places importance on language learning, including mother tongue and our host country language. We have a growing collection in our Paterson library of mother tongue books, representing the languages of our students. Another resource available to you online is http://en.childrenslibrary.org/, a resource that “support the world's children in becoming effective members of the global community - who exhibit tolerance and respect for diverse cultures, languages and ideas -- by making the best in children's literature available online free of charge.” (mission statement, http://en.childrenslibrary.org/about/mission.shtml) Take a moment to explore this site if you haven’t already. Just a reminder that the Performing Arts concerts will take place on Paterson Campus throughout the school year in grade levels. Each unique performance will be inspired by the unit the students are inquiring into for that particular grade level. The more intimate and meaningful nature of the performance will allow for each child to play a greater role in the production and to become familiar with and confident in the performance space.
