Paterson Campus
On Sunday, December 10th at our ISS Paterson Campus is a Japanese University Fair. This fair is jointly sponsored by ISS, the Ministry of Education in Japan (MEXT) and the Global Education Foundation, Japan. The universities represented offer programmes taught in English and also programmes taught in Japanese. Programmes are of a high quality and are very affordable. The Fair is open from 10am-5:15pm. Learning Spaces on Campus Please remember that our upper playground (basketball court) is a learning space and is used throughout the school day from 7:30am-3:30pm for various ES and MS classes and ECAs. If you are early to pick up your child, please be mindful of the classes in this learning space. To ensure continuity of teaching and learning, and the safety of individuals please avoid moving through the upper playground whilst classes are being taught. Elementary School News As this will be the last blog before the December Break, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family happy holidays. We have had a wonderful first semester and I am looking forward to Semester 2. As with all International Schools the December break is also a time to say goodbye to those students and families who are moving on to exciting new adventures. We wish you all the best and look forward to you keeping in touch with our ISS family. The Grade 5 Market Day will be held on Tuesday, December 12th between 8:45am-11:00am. This is a culmination of our learning for our "How We Organise Ourselves" unit of inquiry, with the central idea of "Understanding Supply and Demand is essential for a Business to Succeed". Hope to see you there. Lost And Found We have unclaimed items in the Lost and Found Box. If your child has lost anything at school over the last semester please check to see whether it has found its way into the Lost and Found Box. The Box is under the stairs near the School Office. Upcoming Events Tuesday 12th December: Grade 5 Market Day Friday 15th December - Reports available on ManageBac Friday,15th December - Last day of Semester (note this is a full day) Friday,15th December- Free Dress Friday Tuesday, 9th January - Students return and Semester 2 begins Middle School News Semester One at a glance Greetings and welcome to the second last week of 2017 for ISS. Where did the year go? We have had orientations, Parent Teacher Conferences, Week Without Walls, celebrity authors, a very wet swim gala (no pun intended), and International Day to name but a few things. All this before we even consider in our learning across GRade 6-8, we have read ‘The Outsiders’ (Mother Tongue); looked at wave motion (Science); considered the rise and fall of the Roman empire (Humanities); improved our swimming (PE); created shop houses (Visual Arts); built kites (Design); researched our family background (French); built our communications (Chinese); worked with decimals (Math); created our own rap song (Music); delved into the world of Greek mythology (Language and Literature); and learnt how to set personal goals (Pastoral). All in all this only makes us more excited for Semester Two. Looking forward to Semester Two Semester Two has many things to look forward, including the PTA Fun Fair, Literacy Week, the Art Exhibition, the Talent Show, Parent Teacher Conferences, Science Technology Engineering Art Math (STEAM) Week, and Sports Day. Stay connected and keep in touch via the school website (iss.edu.sg), our Paterson Blog and posts on ManageBac Walking Towards Zero Hunger On Thursday 14th December Grade 5-8 will go the extra yard on the Service as Action day. Students, staff and parents (if they would like to join) will walk 5km from Constant Wind Sailing Club to the East Coast Food Village. This walk highlights those people who do not have access to enough food in their life. Every person who enters must donate two items of food, that will then be collected by the Singapore Food Bank for distribution throughout Singapore to those in need. It’s a good cause, with a physical challenge, that helps other people. It is very much what ISS is all about. End of Semester To remind everyone, reports come out via ManageBac around 4pm on Friday 15th December. Over the break enjoy some rest, spend time with family and we look forward to seeing you in 2018! Our annual Festival of Lights is on December 6th. This event showcases our High School musical talent. Prior to the event, at 6pm, the School Board and PTA will jointly host a reception. This is an excellent opportunity to get to know members of the School Board and PTA and an additional opportunity to learn about what is happening at ISS. Elementary School News It is hard to believe it is already December! The Elementary School this week was full of learning engagements, field trips, class inquiries and discussions! I asked the students what their headline for this week would be, please see their responses below. G3 students “ISS students use their feet to explore length!” G4 students “G4 explores Mindful Eating and free snacks!” K2 students “I love Listen to Reading with Daily 5!” K2 students “We trace letters with colourful gel!” G2 students “ISS students use Tangrams to create a story!” G2 Student “ I am an Artist at ISS!” A gentle reminder about our Imagination Playground equipment. These versatile building blocks allow students countless ways to create, cooperate and have fun and we are happy to see the students using them after school as well. Please help us support our students in being responsible by putting away any equipment they are using after school before heading home. Upcoming Events Tuesday, 5th December - G2 Field Trip to National Gallery Wednesday, 6th December - Festival of Lights, 6pm at our Preston Campus Sunday, 10th December - Japanese University Fair (Paterson Campus) Friday, 15th December - Reports available on ManageBac Friday, 15th December - Last day of the Semester (note this is a full day) Middle School News Greetings and welcome to life in the Middle School. Everywhere I turn at Paterson Campus there is something that intrigues me, makes me smile and reinforces what a special school we have. Last Friday I was fortunate enough to watch Starry Night (G2 play); that was following on from a Grade 6-8 student semester reflection activity in Sambutan; and lastly the start of the boys U14 football competition with games against Dover Court and GEMs schools. Our students excel when given the opportunity, and they do so in a thoughtful and caring manner. What a great week! On Sunday Mr Lebon and Mr Ballinger 16 students will perform for the Eurasian Association (EA) here in Singapore. ‘The EA provides services for the community in three key areas: Educational Advancement, Family Support Services and Community Development.’ (http://www.eurasians.org.sg/) During the course of the day the ISS students will perform and help out at the EA as they hold their christmas celebration. Well done to all concerned. As earlier mentioned our U14 boys, coached by Mr Orgee, begun their football campaign in ACSIS sport (Singapore Internationals schools sports association). A hard fought 2-1 loss against Dover Court was followed up with a 7-2 loss to GEMs. Coach Orgree said they are still developing the teamwork. Good luck boys. Hope everyone has a good weekend Upcoming Events Sunday, 3rd December - MS students @ Eurasian Society Christmas Party Wednesday, 6th December - Festival of Lights, 6pm at our Preston Campus Sunday, 10th December - Japanese University Fair (Paterson Campus) Thursday, 14th December - Service as Action day, East Coast Parkway Friday, 15th December - Reports available on ManageBac Friday, 15th December - Last day of the Semester (note this is a full day) |
