As we continue to plan and look forward to uniting Paterson and Preston campuses students and teachers from Grade 6, 7 and 8 visited the Preston campus this week.
At Thursday’s Parent Coffee the school architect, Mr. Lem, shared an update of renovation plans and construction work as well as how the works are progressing at Preston. Students were very interested in the heritage buildings and enjoyed stories from Mr. Adamberry and Ms. Edwards about their days as students at ISS. Ms. Berna, Paterson counsellor, and Ms. Jo, High School counsellor, made a very thought-provoking and highly relevant presentation about technology this week as part of the "Conversations with Counsellors" workshop series. Thank you to the many parents who participated. The Under 14 football team had a very successful first match, well done team! On Friday 29th November we hosted some coaches from the Real Madrid Singapore soccer school as part of our monthly House Event. Plans had to be adjusted at the last minute due to torrential rain and a waterlogged field. This didn’t dampen our spirits as students enthusiastically dribbled, controlled, trapped and shot balls. Also on 29th November, Middle School students planned and led a Middle School Christmas party, complete with decorations, party games, party music and party food. All students at Paterson campus wore either “Christmas colours” or house colours (or both) and entered into the spirit of a busy and fun day. Donations are being collected for #WehaveaDreamXmas, to support migrant workers in Singapore. Thank you for all the generous donations that were received today, we will continue with the drive for a few more days. Next week is the last week for ECAs and ASA’s this Semester with ECAs on 3rd, 4th and 5th December and the last ASA on Friday 6th December. Upcoming Events:
Have a lovely weekend, Susan Tilney. Friday afternoon assemblies (or Sambutan) at Paterson provide opportunities for students across the campus to make presentations, to share learning, to perform and to be recognised as for example Scientist of the Month or to receive a certificate recognising Learner Profile attributes such as being a thinker or a risk taker. I attended the Elementary assembly today and it was my pleasure to hear a young “guest” musician playing the piano, the whole school sing the school song and Happy Birthday and to be entertained by a newly formed Grade 4 dance group, watch out for more performances from this enthusiastic team!
Elementary students and their teachers were able to get a first look and “feel” for their “new” school when they visited the Preston campus this week. Grades 1 and 3 on Wednesday, Kindergarten and Grade 4 on Thursday and Grades 2 and 5 on Friday. High School student council members shared what they enjoy about learning and “living” at Preston. As students and teachers toured Block 5 we met High School students who have been with ISS since Kindergarten. I joined the tour on Thursday and with us were Ms. Sophia Bustamante, Ms. Fiona Edwards and Mr. Paul Adamberry who all studied as students at the Preston campus, some years ago. We assembled in the cafeteria for a delicious pizza lunch and marvelled at the truly magnificent view through the treetops. As we continue to plan and look forward to uniting Paterson and Preston campuses we have arranged for Grade 6, 7 and 8 students to visit the Preston campus next week. Afternoon lessons at Paterson will continue as normal. I am pleased to let you know that the school architect will share an update of renovation plans and how the works are progressing at Preston at Thursday’s Parent Coffee which will begin as usual at 8.00am in Serangoon Hall. Upcoming Events:
Susan Tilney. Paterson events this week have included: the Grade 2 field trip to the Science Centre as part of their Unit of Inquiry under the theme “How the world works” and activities related to World Kindness Day. Students from every grade gathered together on the playground just after the morning bell and shared kind words with each other. Students then presented certificates of thanks to Paterson staff: the nurse, canteen staff, guards, facilities staff, cleaners, IT staff, secretaries, librarian - people who quietly make a big difference in our everyday lives.
The purpose of World Kindness Day is “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” Of course kindness is not just for one day a year. A culture of kindness, random acts of kindness, consideration for others and respect for all are all integral to the spirit of ISS everyday. As we continue to plan and look forward to uniting Paterson and Preston campuses next year we have arranged for Elementary students and their teachers to visit the Preston campus next week. Grades 1 and 3 on Wednesday, Kindergarten and Grade 4 on Thursday and Grades 2 and 5 on Friday. High school students will share what it’s like to be a student at Preston and what they enjoy about learning there, students and teachers will take a tour of Block 5 which is where Elementary will be located next year, of course, renovations have not taken place yet however students will be able to get a first look and “feel” for their “new” school. The visit will finish at lunchtime with a pizza lunch being provided by the school. Afternoon lessons at Paterson will continue as normal. Grade 6, 7 and 8 students will also be visiting the Preston campus in the near future. Upcoming Events:
