A huge thank you to all of the parents, staff and students who made the fun fair such a special event on Sunday. It is days like Sunday that really highlight what a great community ISS is.
As you will see below we have another action packed week coming up and the PTA are very active once again. PTA News The PTA would like to invite you to attend their next meeting on Monday, 6 March at 8am in the Elementary School MPR (3rd floor). The topic will be: GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS IN A DIGITAL WORLD. Our guest speaker, Colin Gallagher, will be hosting a session where we will take a critical look at the use of social media and technology in today’s world and how parenting has been affected with the emergence of digital devices in our daily lives. We will also discuss a set of guidelines that our parents at ISS have developed for navigating this world with your children. Directly after the meeting there will be a field trip for parents to the Kranji area of Singapore - if you have signed up please ensure you are in the carpark (Paterson Campus) by 08h50am as the busses will depart at 9am sharp. This trip has proven to be very popular and all seats are currently filled, and due to the overwhelming response the PTA will put on another trip in the coming weeks - so keep watching our Facebook page as well as emails for details. If you have not already joined the PTA Facebook page, please do so at: https://www.facebook.com/grou ps/ISSIntlSchPTA/ Elementary School News It was great to see everyone at the Fun Fair, what a wonderful example of the community support here at ISS! Thank you to the PTA and everyone for making the day a great success. The Exhibition represents an exciting time each year at ISS. Our Grade 5 students have begun their journey into an in-depth, collaborative inquiry. Three Grade 5 students planned and led a successful parent information session on Exhibition this week, demonstrating their independence and enthusiasm. Upon visiting Grade 4 classes this week, you would have had the pleasure of hearing from significant figures from the 20th century such as Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks and Roald Dahl as they shared their part in creating the world of the 21st century. Talented Teachers Ms. Batlaw ran a workshop on Building a Culture of Thinking at PYPConnect, a PYP conference for teachers. Well, what a weekend! Great work and thanks to everyone that was involved in the sleepover last Saturday. Mr Lebon for organising as part of ‘Into the woods’, Mr Contreras, Mr Shelly, Mrs Tan and Mrs Taylor for all contributing by either sleeping over or cooking and organising. Sunday morning there were quite a few bleary eyed students and teachers but overall many happy faces. Then to the Funfair. A great outpouring of community spirit was evident on Sunday. Fantastic organisation by the PTA. everything ran smoothly and everybody commented on what an enjoyable it was. Again recognition goes to the students and teachers who contributed to car washing, bake sales, banana covered chocolate sales, the toilet throw challenge to mention but a few. A true reflection on the ISS spirit and ethos that values community interaction as integral to learning. During the week, Fang Shelly held an IB Middle Year Programme (MYP) education session. This was run informally as a coffee morning last Tuesday. During this time she discussed a number of areas integral to the MYP, including Approaches To Learning (ATL) in the MYP; and the assessment process. Fang was able to answer many questions and this enabled parents to walk away with a little more insight into learning in the MYP. Now to upcoming events in the Middle School. The next big thing is Sports Day on Friday 17th March. Come along and see the students go faster, higher and longer is pursuit of athletic excellence. The Sports Day is held at Academy of Singapore Teachers on Malan Rd off Alexander Rd. More details to follow next week.
