Happy Chinese New Year to all parents, guardians, teachers and students.
The ISS PTA would like to remind you of the upcoming PTA General meeting. This will be held on Monday, 06 Feb at 1:15pm in the Elementary School Multipurpose hall (3rd floor) Paterson campus. The PTA are very pleased to have the ISS counselling department give a talk on Mindfulness. Our ISS faculty have just had an in service day on mindfulness and we would like to introduce this to you, our parents and guardians, talk briefly about the history of why schools have integrated it into their curriculums and provide resources for you to do some practice exercises so you can experience it for yourselves. The PTA will also be giving you an update on the Fun Fair as well as our Middle School’s upcoming performance, Into the Woods. Come along, catch up and meet fellow parents. We look forward to seeing you all on Monday. Elementary News Even during a short 2 day week back to school, the students at ISS were focused and engaged. It’s a wonderful period in international schools during Lunar New Year (LNY), especially here in Asia. As we embrace our cultural differences and similarities, and agree upon that we hope the coming year is a good one for all concerned. Great stuff. The Paterson Campus today culminated the LNY celebrations with the traditional lion dance, which was visually and audibly unique and impressive. Parent/guardian Teacher Conferences (PTC) are just around the corner on Wednesday 15th February. There is only one session in Semester Two as we also have Student Led Conferences (SLC) on Tuesday 18th April. The sign up for PTC will be available from 9AM on Tuesday 7th February and go out via ManageBac to parent emails. Over the next week MS students will begin to prepare for the International Schools’ Assessment (ISA) which occurs the week of the 13th February. In class, all grade will begin to familiarise themselves with the nature of an online exam by completing trials exams in reading and math. Grade 7-8 will also have a trial exam in science. It is a good opportunity for students and parents to develop skills in relaxation and personal preparation before, during and after assessments. The MS will be helping students prior to assessments and after assessments in relaxation techniques and being mindful.
