Paterson Campus
Welcome to a quieter than usual Paterson Campus, with the Grade 6-8 students off on Week Without Walls (WWW). By all reports the trips are going exceptionally well. Want to see what a G6-8 student does on WWW? Go to http://msweekwithoutwalls2017-18.weebly.com/ Many of you will have noticed the removal of a number of trees along Paterson Rd. This has been an unfortunate necessity due to the aging nature and stability of some trees. Arborists from NParks having assessed the trees to be not at critical risk but in decline and have chosen a proactive safety approach. We will be endeavouring to replace the loss of these magnificent trees with a green solution over the next few months. Parent Teacher Conferences and Three Way Conferences are upon us! Next Wednesday 1st November we welcome all parents and guardians from Kindergarten to Grade 8 as we reflect on first semester across the school. More details on how to sign up for ES and MS respectively can be found below. Elementary School News Congratulations to our K2 on their Performing Arts concert this afternoon, The Hungry Dog! As mentioned in our blog post from September, each unique performance this year will be inspired by the unit the students are inquiring into for that particular grade level. IB Research The culminating experience for our PYP students is the Exhibition in Grade 5. It is an inquiry that allows students to study real life challenges with depth and rigour with the aim being for the students to take action on the challenge they inquired into. Our ISS Exhibition will be second semester in April, 2018. The benefits to the PYP Exhibition were highlighted in a recent survey from the University of Nottingham in the UK. They conducted surveys and interviews with parents, teachers, mentors, and students to learn more about the impacts of the PYP exhibition. Read more about this research and the findings by clicking here 3 Way Conferences and Book Fair Wednesday November 1st The 3 Way Conferences will take place on 1st November. At the same time there will be a book fair in the library so it will be great chance to browse and buy books whilst you are up at school with your children. Whilst our ES students keep the school alive with laughing, singing and talking- schools are more fun when all the students are here! Speaking of WWW, the students are having many wonderful and diverse experiences across South East Asia. From construction work to build new sporting facilities in Sabah, to learning the crafts of the jungle in Telunas, becoming refined in the art of Khmer dance in Cambodia, and helping out the needy in Singapore, our students are making an impact in SE Asia. Everyone returns to Singapore today (Friday) and it will be great to hear the tales of adventure, exploration and self discovery from this years trips. Parent Teacher Conferences It’s a new model for PTC this year. An all day affair that combines PTC with student lead conferences. After the parents and students have finished with the teacher conferences, they can prgress to the homeroom for a student lead conference. This is where the students will showcase examples of projects, task, assessment and or activities they have been working on. Middle School Parent/Guardian Teacher Conferences (PTCs) are a great opportunity to get an overview of your child’s progress so far in the current school year. There are multiple choices of times to choose what best suits. On the link below you can sign up for conferences with Grade 6 - Grade 8 subject teachers.
