Summer School Summer is on the horizon and ISS Summer School Discovery is back! After the success of past programmes, we’re pleased to inform you that we have designed the course offerings for the 2018 edition. Summer School Discovery will run from the 2nd of July till the 27th of July 2018. We have courses that run throughout various age groups throughout the day. Each course is designed to last a week. Each week, your child can attend a maximum of two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon! Once again, we have four Discoveries on offer. Language, STEM, ARTS & Adventure. Each week offers new experiences and participants can choose a mix of the different discoveries or even take the same ones as the topics change from week to week! Please contact us at +65 9722 5340 or email us at [email protected] for more details! Elementary School News The central idea for this year's Exhibition is: Passions can influence us to make a difference. The Exhibition is the culminating assessment of the PYP where our Grade 5 students get to apply what they have learnt to inquire deeply into an area of interest to them and take action as the result of what the have found out. This year the Exhibition will be shared in the form of workshops. On Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 the Exhibition will kick off with an opening for Grade 5 parents and invited guests. Other members of the ISS community are warmly invited to attend after 10am on Tuesday or from 9-12 on Wednesday. Student Led Conferences On Tuesday 17th April, the school will be having one of the highlights of the school year the Student Led Conferences. At the Student Led Conference your child will share with you their learning journey at ISS. It is always a highlight of the school year in any PYP school. While teachers will be present in and around classrooms, the purpose of this event is for students to discuss their own learning with their parents or guardians. If you would like to speak to your child's teacher individually, please schedule a separate time to meet. Please see below for the online sign up for the Student Led Conference: https://tinyurl.com/esslc18 As there are only 4 slots during each hour block please sign up early to ensure you can come at the time you would most want. After visiting your child's classroom, your child should take you around the school to show you what they have been learning in Mandarin, ESL, Art, Performing Arts and PE. The K-8 Teachers will be present in the ES rooms from 10am-12pm and 2:30-4pm as they are splitting their time with Middle School. A wonderful display of student agency; experts in their fields sharing with ISS; and students teaching students. We have enjoyed talks on lasers, the physics of drama, surgery on bull sharks and saving the natural wildlife. As well we have been taught about sustainable housing, water filter innovations and electromagnetism to name a few. Well done to Dr Jeremiah and all those involved in this learning adventure. Council of International Schools (CIS) survey Each year ISS seeks feedback about our school from parents, guardians, staff members and students using a survey created by our accreditation agencies. Each question relates to an accreditation standard. Over the last few years we have invested considerable time and resources in strengthening our communications about the school through social media and other channels. As a result, we have added some questions at the end of the survey that will help us gauge our reach in that area. The findings from the survey are used to inform our strategic planning process. The findings from the parent survey will be discussed during our annual Parent Focus Group meeting in April. Student and Faculty findings will be explored during focus group meetings to be held over the coming weeks. Grade 6- Grade 8 students completed the survey in class on Wednesday. Parents have been sent the survey. If you have not received please contact [email protected] and a copy will be sent to you. Thank you for your valuable feedback and support. It is very much appreciated. The survey will remain open until Monday April 16th.
