Paterson Campus
Greetings and welcome to 2018! Parent information meeting On Thursday 18th January from 13:30- 14:25 we will be holding a parent session in Changi Hall. This afternoon session is aimed at new and returning parents and guardians for students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. In this parent session we will provide information for:
ISS Spring School 2018 English Discoverers Programme For those who would like to get serious about improving their English language skills during this break, the ISS Spring School 2018 has developed an all new programme to help. It will be a two-week intensive course to equip you with a strong foundation, enabling you to flourish in your reading, listening and speaking abilities in English. The lessons are geared towards building confidence in grammar, vocabulary, writing and speaking in a friendly group environment, that will encompass conversational role play (talking to each other) and task-based assignments (having fun with English). Our approach is bespoke, with our experienced teachers customising the English programme based on each student’s need and proficiency level. So if you feel that your English skills could be sharpened, this is definitely the programme for you. Don't miss out. Go to isspringschool.edu.sg / or call +65 9722 5340 / or email [email protected] to sign up now. Elementary School News Happy New Year and welcome back to Semester 2. It was great to see all of the children back this week, catching up with friends and making new friends. A warm welcome to all of our new families to ISS. ISS places importance on language learning, including mother tongue and our host country language. We have a growing collection in our Paterson library of mother tongue books, representing the languages of our students. Another resource available to you online is http://en.childrenslibrary.org/, a resource that “support the world's children in becoming effective members of the global community - who exhibit tolerance and respect for diverse cultures, languages and ideas -- by making the best in children's literature available online free of charge.” (mission statement, http://en.childrenslibrary.org/about/mission.shtml) Take a moment to explore this site if you haven’t already. Just a reminder that the Performing Arts concerts will take place on Paterson Campus throughout the school year in grade levels. Each unique performance will be inspired by the unit the students are inquiring into for that particular grade level. The more intimate and meaningful nature of the performance will allow for each child to play a greater role in the production and to become familiar with and confident in the performance space. The next Performing Arts Concert is on Friday, 19th January, 2018, where Grade 1 will share their performance, Our Five Senses! Hope to see you there. Academic support On three out of five afternoons after school, opportunities are available for academic support to Middle School students. On Tuesday and Thursday, Mr Contreras runs a homework club. Generally, subject teachers refer students to attend ROW with a specific area to work on. Medieval Fair Hear ye, hear ye! Loyal serfs and freemen, this Royal Proclamation is an official invitation to our third, and now annual, Middle School Medieval Exhibition/Fair. The Medieval Exhibition/Fair is a culminating inquiry into student selected topics from the Middle Ages and shared with our school community. Each Grade 6 student will present their learning in the form of a poster or booklet, an artefact/prop, and a learning activity. We have asked all the Grade 6 students to come in costume to really get into the spirit of this time period. The Medieval Exhibition will be held during periods 1-2 on Friday, January 19th in the Serangoon Hall. All are welcome!
