We started the week with a wonderful celebration at the Lakeside Volunteer Appreciation Day when Mr Whitehead received on behalf of ISS a 'Special Events Award' in recognition of our commitment and service with Lakeside Rainbow Centre. For many years our students have and continue to support the centre and volunteer their time to help others. Our ECA Dance Group also received gifts of thanks before they performed at the event. Congratulations and well done to everyone involved.
This week our Grade 10 Design students went on a field trip to the Gardens by the Bay to explore the relation between the natural and human landscapes for their unit “Gardens by the School”. Our students plan to create a garden leisure space for Preston campus, and the field trip helped to inspire the students creativity. We are all looking forward to seeing the new garden space later this year. Understanding the IB (Chinese) To further support our Chinese-speaking community, the Mandarin team will provide a presentation about "Understanding the IB" for both PYP and MYP in Chinese. It is a great opportunity to explore the philosophy and practices in IB, as well as strategies to help our children at home. Welcome back to term 2 for Semester 1. We have many exciting learning opportunities arranged for this term, starting with our Group 4 presentations that were held on Thursday. Our Grade 11 students shared their results from their Week Without Walls trip to Tioman Island and through their research and data collection found a large amount of trash and damage to the coral reef. They discussed ethical implications and solutions for raising awareness and how to make a positive impact on the environment.
All of our students returned to school with exciting stories and tales to tell from their Week Without Walls activities. The weebly can be accessed here to see the pictures and reflections from each day on the trips. Mid-semester Reports On Tuesday 16th October our Mid-semester reports were uploaded onto ManageBac and parents and students can now access these by logging on. Please note the slight differences between our MYP and DP students as mentioned below: MYP (Grade 9-10) As a mid-semester report there will not be attainment grades for subject content (these will appear on the end of semester report in December). There will be a description from each teacher on what has been covered so far this semester and an assessment on your child/ward’s Approach To Learning skills (ATLs) which have been covered during the units to date. The description of each skill will be printed on the report. Each ATL skill covered will be marked one of below, approaching, meeting or exceeding expectation. By the end of the academic year every ATL should have been covered within each subject. Should you have any questions about the report, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Hayward, the MYP coordinator: [email protected] DP (Grade 11-12) As a mid-semester report students are given an attainment grade for each subject to date.
