This week has been busy with the annual photoshoot of all the students in their Kampongs, and our graduates looking smart in their gowns and hats. We also have had a number of fund-raising activities organised by our students for their WWW trips.
The Grade 9 organised a lunchtime of fun that included tasty food and a competition to find the fastest typist between staff and students - well done to Thon Thon who was the overall champion. The event raised funds that will go towards building a toilet and planting fruit trees at Dong Binh Village. Our Grade 10 ran an afternoon fund raising event for ‘gamers’ where students competed against each other or in teams of two. Funds raised will be donated to the local school for Rohingya refugees. Well done to all the students and teachers who contributed both money and time. We ended our week with some of our Grade 9 students presenting their findings on poster presentations after completing an Interdisciplinary unit (IDU) in Science and Design. Students investigated the use of Robots across a range of industries. Through inquiry, research and collaboration our students compiled their findings and shared their outcomes. Well done to everyone involved. Swim Gala The Swim Gala is an exciting opportunity for the ISS community to join together in a celebration of sporting achievement. The event this year will be made even more special because as an IB Continuum School the Swim Gala will reflect both the PYP and MYP. There will be events for all levels of swimmer and it is hoped that as many of you as possible will be able to join us. The DP students will be at school working on the CORE components of the IB programme. We have had a busy week at the High School which kicked off with our 3-way conferences on Monday and again on Wednesday. Many parents commented about the 'family feeling' of the school and 'how our teachers truly care for their child'. The 3-way conference is a great opportunity to meet teachers and find out how your child/ward is doing in class and how you can support them from home as they strive to reach their potential. We are now only one week away from our annual Week Without Walls trip and we are in the final stages of planning with the students. Grade 10 recently met to visualise what each day on their WWW will involve and drew images to share with their peers as seen above. Our Grade 9 students will be hosting a fundraising event on Tuesday, September 25th at lunchtime - everyone, including parents are invited along to support this event: Hungry for some homemade baked goods and lunch items? Think you can type faster than Mr Larkins? Are you the ISS Badminton Champion? Eager to support an ongoing WWW tradition of planting trees in Vietnam? Come by the Grade 9 Fundraising Fair on Tuesday Sept 25th at lunchtime in Block 5! All items and games between $1-2 ! You are encouraged to bring your own container if you plan on purchasing any food items. We ended our school week with a wonderful music concert by our Grade 11 Diploma Music students. On Saturday many of our students will volunteer their time to support the SEF Oratory competition and on Sunday our students will be provided with opportunities to talk to universities from Japan at the ISS Japanese Fair - both of these events are at the Paterson campus.
We have had a busy week that started on a high note with our MYP/DP coffee morning. Many parents joined us to hear more about the two programmes we offer at the high school. Our MYP parents were given an opportunity to delve deeper into how we assess student work and our DP parents were provided with a greater understanding of the DP Core programmes. We also presented on the Laws in Singapore to help keep everyone informed. All of our students have also had a presentation on the Law In Singapore to help to guide them in making wise choices.
3-way conferences On Monday 17th and Wednesday 19th we have our 3-way conferences. This is an opportunity for students, parents and guardians to meet teachers to discuss overall progress within subject areas and to gain a better understanding of student goals.
