Elementary News
There is a real buzz around the school as students in Grades 3 to 5 prepare for their camps. Grade 5 leave on 8 May and travel to Bintan where they will participate in activities associated with the Global Goals. Money has been raised to supply a Clear Water toilet system for an indigenous family living close to the camp and the students will be part of the build. They will be investigating eco-systems associated with mangroves and the surrounding water and will be exposed to how solar power is used to power everything at the camp.. The Grade 5s leave from Tanah Merah ferry terminal at 8.00 am on Wednesday 8 May. Grades 3 and 4 will go to the Singapore Zoo for a sleepover on 13 & 14 May. This camp promises to be exciting as the students (and the staff!!) will be sleeping among the trees. Thank you to those parents who attended the Student Led Conferences last Friday; these were invaluable to the students as they were able to discuss their learning in mother tongue when appropriate. Our Elementary students were very welcoming to our visitors from ETU School in Beijing who were at school for a technology camp. Students from all grades showed the attributes of the Learner Profile as they took the students around the school and exchanged email addresses when they left. Well done ISS! Please keep 24 May free to attend the Art Exhibition, 25 May for the PTA Jumble Sale and 29 May for the Grade 5 students’ Valedictory Dinner. See you there!! Middle School News Greetings everyone and happy Friday. As always the challenge in schools is keeping up with the trends in society. Today in Kampongs and in Sambutan, as a school, we will continue to reflect on positive digital behaviours. The work and education we do with the students is only as effective as the support that parents and guardians provide at home. For this we thank you and be remind ourselves that it is an ongoing effort. Kampong Cup The lunchtime football competition continues with the G7-8 girls going head to head. Once again congratulations to Team Palumbo #1 for winning Grade 6 on a countback! With only a few rounds to go, it will be the boys chance to shine next in the lunchtime football competition. ACSIS This week ISS finished its commitments to school sport, with a win in the basketball. The U14 boys lead by Coach Orgee held on in an extra time nail biter. Well done to all that have competed over the year. We look forward to seeing boys and girls out and about in Singapore next season being risk takers and balanced in their education. Bamboo Straw Girl Mel aka the Bamboo Straw Girl returned for another visit to ISS. Bringing her full range of bamboo and sustainable wares she was a most popular figure at lunchtime. Examination Week Exam week is not far away. Students have been given their timetables this week. This is a good time to create a subject review and study schedule for students. Setting up environments that are clear of clutter, well lit, and good oxygen flow will also contribute to positive study habits. Once On This Island With only seven rehearsals to go before showtime, the cast and crew are getting excited about the production. The scene is set and work is all but done and now we just await Mr Lebon to call out ‘lights and action’. Jumble Sale On Saturday 25 May from 8am-12am the PTA will hold a Jumble Sale/Garage Sale/ Yard Sale at the Paterson Campus. More details to follow but get organised to turn that trash into treasure! Have a great weekend MT Comments are closed.
