Elementary School News
The students of the Elementary School have been working on their final Unit of Inquiry and reflecting on their learning throughout their time here at ISS. Teachers have also been reflecting on their teaching as they complete the final Appraisal process. They are also finalising the school reports which you will receive on June 7. Next week we will welcome Ms Susan Tilney to the school as she prepares to take over as Paterson Campus Principal K-8. She will be here for a week while she becomes acquainted with the staff and students. She will attend the MS coffee morning on Friday. I don’t know where the year has gone! It seems to have passed so quickly and I will be very sad to leave the students and teachers at ISS. Arts Exhibition On Wednesday 29 May and Thursday 30 May, Paterson Campus will hold it’s annual Arts Exhibition. This coincides with the Paterson Production Once On This Island. Other Arts examples you can enjoy will be the exposition in Changi Hall. The festival will run for the full two days. Middle School News The penultimate blog for the year. You would think things are slowing down. Not at ISS! In the next two weeks we have Once On This Island, Sports Day, Grade 8 Farewell, Service as Action Day, and the last day of school for the year. Plus a public holiday thrown in. As we draw this year to a close I would like to thank everyone in the community for their support of the six years I have been a ISS. It is a wonderful parent body, ably supported by committed guardians. All with the same intention to provide a world class IB education to our students. As in all things this can only be done as a team. I have had the privilege to work beside some great teachers in my time. These are the people given the responsibility to develop our students. They do this and more. At the end of their time, we can safely say, our students leave ISS as good people and good global citizens. Well done all. It’s been a great ride! Once On This Island Good luck to cast and crew in next production. The time, effort and dedication is to be applauded. The months have commitment is about to come to the fore and the anticipation is rising. Enough thanks cannot go to Mr Lebon for the energy he puts into the performances and how much he helps the students to grow. Let’s not forget that proceeds from every Paterson production go to Sok Sabay in Cambodia to help in the welfare and education of less privileged students. Bravo! Sports Day Monday 3 June is the ISS Sports Day. All the school will head to the Physical Education and Teachers College 2 Malan Road; Singapore 109433. Grade 6-8 will leave from Paterson Campus at normal school time (08:10) after Kampong. Students will return to Paterson Campus at 12:30pm. Students will be dismissed from Paterson Campus. A note from the school detailing the event was sent to all parents and guardians via ManageBac All parents are strongly encouraged to join us. Please be reminded to wear your parent ID as it is a requirement of the venue. Grade 8 Farewell On Tuesday 4 June we officially recognise the next step in the educational journey of Grade 8. Our students will be given a farewell, organised by Grade 7, as they move off to Grade 9. The event takes place in Serangoon Hall and commences at 1pm. If you have not let the school know you will be attending, please contact [email protected]. Spaces are limited and reservations are required. Following the formal part of the event, students and staff head to the Grand Furama for High Tea to complete, what is a wonderful day. Service as Action Day On, Thursday, May 30th, as part of our twice yearly Service as Action Day, the Middle School (MS) students will participate in a Kampong team challenge at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. The purpose of this outing is for the MS students to develop their skills of negotiation, communication and organisation, in the environments of the flora and fauna found within the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. The trip will also help to gain a greater appreciation of the aims of the UN Sustainable Development Goal #15, Life on Land. Each student will be involved in a pre and post outing presentation regarding the flora and fauna of the park, and will be challenged to complete activities which will allow them to appreciate the purposes of the site, and immerse themselves into what can been seen and heard in the nature reserve. Have a great weekend MT Comments are closed.
