Elementary School News Our thanks go to the PTA who kindly donated some money from the SIlent Auction to our Clear Water Toilet system for a family on Bintan. The Grade 5 students, who return from their camp tonight, 10 May, visited the family as the system was being built. The students were humbled by the fact that this family has lived for so long in their house in the village without this single ‘human right’. You will see from the photographs that the Grade 5 camp to Bintan has been very successful and the students have become more aware of our Sustainable Development Goals. Paterson campus welcomed some teachers from Manila who were eager to learn more about our programme and how we develop the PYP. The teachers visited classrooms, spoke with students and educators and attended the ES assembly. This is another example of sharing good practice around the world. Shortly our teachers will be deciding on class lists for the 2019/2020 academic year. If you know that your child will be leaving the school, please let us know as we will start the process with those students who have indicated their commitment. Teachers take into account the students’ personality, friendship groups and gender as they prepare their lists for consideration. The class lists will be available at the beginning of the new school year. The school year has passed so quickly and my time at Paterson Campus will soon be over; Ms Susan Tilney, who will be the new Paterson Campus Principal will be visiting the school from 27 May, so you will see her around the classes and at the Grade 5 Valedictory Dinner on May 29. Dates to remember: Grade 3 & 4 Camp Monday & Tuesday 13 & 14 May (Singapore Zoo) Grade 5 Valedictory Dinner Wednesday 29 May (students only) Sports Day June 3 Middle School News Greetings everyone and welcome to another full week in the Middle School. We have had football competitions, talks of space travel and a movie night all in the space of five days. CASE Space Camp On Wednesday evening, we welcomed representatives from Actura and CASE to talk to our Middle School students and parents about an exciting new collaboration - a space camp scheduled for next summer, June-July 2020. ISS is the first school in Singapore to offer this once in a lifetime opportunity for our current G6-8 students, and we are very excited to make it happen! If you missed this week’s session and would like to more, please contact Dr Jeremiah. Movie Night Our Super Student Council (SSC) have been busy organising a Movie Night tonight, as a way to give back to the student community and to help facilitate some much needed balance in the lead up to Exam Week next week. Great initiative, leadership and creativity in demonstrating the IB Learner Profile attributes within our Middle School. Kampong Cup This week, the G7/G8 Girls finished their round of Kampong Cup football games. Final winners were from Kampong Rong - Hina, Altea, Tanisha, Daria and Yaqi. A fantastic collaborative effort, and another great way for our Middle School students to bring balance to their personal and academic schedules! R U OK? Day Building further on personal balance, our Grade 8 SSC decided to raise mental health awareness for our Middle School community in Sambutan today. They planned an engaging and informative presentation to educate, and a fun Kahoot activity to reinforce concepts for the students. Further proof of the strong student-led opportunities for student leaders to take action within our Middle School. Mental health is particularly important as we commence Exam Week next week, and prepare for the end of the academic year. Overall, a wonderful and busy week! We would like to end with a gentle reminder to parents/guardians to share their intentions of whether they plan to continue at ISS next year. Class sizes and resourcing are important considerations for a successful start for next academic year. Comments are closed.
